The HTC Edge; it’s not been officially announced but we’ve heard a lot about this unofficial, non-existent phone.
Rumour recap: the HTC Edge is reportedly the flagship standard-bearer phone for HTC in 2012. The phone that’s going to kick the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Note and S3 into the ground.
The word on the street is that this titan will come with Nvidia’s Tegra 3 quad-core CPU running under the hood and come with a huge display; 4.7-inches, 1280 x 720 (720p) resolution and AMOLED technology.
Like the HTC Sensation XL and the HTC Titan, it’s thought to have a slim profile, 10mm, offsetting the super-wide HD screen
Other rumoured spec includes an 8-megapixel camera with a lens aperture of f/2.2 – again similar to what we’ve seen in the Sensation XL and the Windows Phone-running Titan. Hopefully, it’d build on the overall good performance of the XL’s camera. It’s going to have to compete with the 12-megapixel unit of Sony’s Xperia S after all.
Close to the Edge
The latest rumour nugget on the Edge is that will be shown off at Mobile World Congress next month, with a press pre-brief going down on the 26th of February.
While we’ve not heard of said event (nor would be disclosing details of such an invite) we’d be surprised if HTC isn’t going to hit MWC with all guns blazing.
HTC declined to comment when we spoke to them, but given its track record, we’d be surprised if something along the lines of the HTC Edge won’t be gracing the stands at Barcelona.
Along with the Edge, the HTC Ville is reportedly the mainstay of HTC’s middle ground effort. If the whispers are to be believed, this one will sport a slimmer profile and a less-cutting edge 1.5GHz CPU. This would still mean it should be able to stream and record Full HD video, so we’d expect a camera on there that’d be able to match those likes of the current Sensation range.
Finally, while we’re on the subject of speculation, we’d love it if 2012 was the year when HTC started putting some decent amounts of internal storage in its high-end phones. 1GB and a bit just don’t cut it any more. We want at least 16GB and a microSD slot in high-end HTC’s going forwards.
